Steve Jobs on Innovation and Mistakes

Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes.
It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.

quote by Steve Jobs

Majority - Mark Twain

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority,
it is time to pause and reflect.

quote by Mark Twain

Steve Jobs on Innovation

Steve Jobs gave a small private presentation about the iTunes Music Store to some independent record label people.
People kept raising their hand saying, "Does it do [x]?", "Do you plan to add [y]?".

Finally Jobs said:

"Wait wait — put your hands down. Listen: I know you have a thousand ideas for all the cool features iTunes could have. So do we. But we don't want a thousand features. That would be ugly. Innovation is not about saying yes to everything. It's about saying NO to all but the most crucial features.”

Clarke on innovation

When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.

quote by Arthur C. Clarke, Profiles of the Future

That's funny...

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not, “Eureka!” (“I found it!”) but rather, “Hmm... that’s funny...”

quote by Isaac Asimov

Discovery

We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves

quote by Galileo Galilei

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

James Joyce

Brilliant idea

Don't trust a brilliant idea unless it survives the hangover

Jimmy Breslin

Discover

Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.
